The dream machine's main theme is escapism. I cannot sleep and suffer from an insomnia that drives me mad. To escape it, I resorts to an imaginary machine that not only allows me to sleep, but also allows me to position myself in the dream which I desire. Even though at first I only wanted to have a peaceful rest, I soon become addicted to the machine and its wonderful dreams. I begin to abuse it, but the contraption breaks and I find myself trapped in my own mind, as sleep paralysis takes over.
The poem I am reciting in the first part of the film in in my native language, Romanian. I wrote it one night in 2008 when I couldn't sleep.
