The Steward Community Woodland is a low-impact community of eleven adults and seven children living in a 32 acre woodland on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. 'Wild Wood' follows my journey in becoming a member of this community. The project began as an organic, self-reflective documentation and has evolved into a narrative looking at the way as humans we connect with nature. My objective is to promote this way of life and to continue recording my experiences. This is a long term project and will continue into the foreseeable future as I build my home there.
Fern Leigh Albert is a freelance photographer currently splitting her time between living in the woods in Devon and negotiating the urban jungle of London. She is studying a Post Graduate Diploma in Photography at the London College of Communication and has recently been shortlisted for the Ideastap and Magnum Photos Photographic Award for her project 'Wild Wood' which documents her journey in becoming a member of The Steward Community Woodland in Devon.
