Yuan He and Amanda MacAllister are two members of a four-women team of biomedical engineering majors who developed a computer program for screening cervical cancer. Their Algo-Cerv software enables people with limited medical training to scan Pap smear slides and provide results to a patient. The software is especially useful in developing countries with limited resources. They received a first place $10,000 prize in the 2013 Qualcomm Wireless Innovation Prize competition sponsored by San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc. Other team members included Isabel Callan and Katherine Hildebrand.
