A SERENE MONK in a Restless Country | Un Monje Tranquilo The Dalai Lama in Colombia Documentary.
Filmed on location in Bogotá, Colombia, Tibetan in exile communities in India: McLeodGanj Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, and Bylakuppe and Tibetan communities inside Tibet including Lhasa and the Tibetan Plateau, China.
Witness how the His Holiness The 14TH Dalai Lama of Tibet navigates through the unpredictable obstacles on his first visit to Colombia, a place of magical realism where things do not always go as planned. Where the echoes of years of relentless violent conflict have not yielded the spirit of the many who continue to pursue peace.
This an independent mostly self-financed film, a lot of creative professionals and artists donated their time and expertise to make it possible. We would like to have enough to be able to continue streaming it on this service, please feel free to help out a little by renting it. We have no support except for you.
We pledged to donate half of any profits to the small Buddhist Center called Yamantaka in Colombia, that gave us the seed production funds and allowed this documentary to begin, and most importantly that brought His Holiness The Dalai Lama to Colombia for the first and only time.
We also take a closer look at the way his message resonates with people all over the world, and specifically how the sense of displacement that are part of the national identities of many people of Tibet and Colombia, become a common ground of dialogue on this visit for a "simple monk" and people that attend his talks and celebrate his message of peace.
This documentary is filled with moments of incredible beauty humor and the wisdom of everyday people as well as the profound message of peace and reconciliation brought forth by His Holiness The 14TH Dalai Lama of Tibet.
If you have asked yourself:
What would the Dalai Lama do if things don't go as planned?
This documentary is for you.
