Join Greenville Forward for a presentation from Mary Douglas Hirsch, Downtown Manager for the City of Greenville. Come learn about the City of Greenville’s economic development approach to new projects downtown. Participants will find out about new initiatives and overall strategies to improve Greenville’s downtown, commercial corridors, and neighborhoods, including street beautification, business recruitment, and utility undergrounding. New projects on the horizon will be discussed as well.
Mary Douglas Hirsch works with the City of Greenville as the Downtown Manager in the Economic Development Department. For the past eight years, she has collaborated with business owners, developers, residents, and other stakeholders to promote a viable downtown district and to stimulate investment. She focuses on a variety of downtown mixed-use developments, streetscape projects, and office recruitment initiatives and obtained her AICP designation in 2007. She is a graduate of Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and of Clemson University with a Masters in City and Regional Planning.
Mary Douglas currently serves on the Board of Directors for Greenville Forward and previously on the board of Main Street Events. Additionally, she is an active member in the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Upstate SC Young Leaders Group of ULI, the American Planning Association, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association, CREW Upstate, and the International Downtown Association. In 2006, the City of Greenville presented her with the “City Ambassador Award,” and in 2009, Greenville Business Magazine named her one of the “Best and Brightest: 35 and Under.” The Greenville Chamber of Commerce presented her with the “Young Professional of the Year Award” at their 2012 annual meeting.

Progression is a new Greenville Forward series that provides an opportunity for Greenvillians to learn, engage, and discuss topics that help shape our community. The series fits with the Greenville Forward's goal to educate the public on important topics in our community and inspire lively discussion. Join us for this new program.
