Night blooming cereuses open when movement is detected, and slowly close when no motion is detected.
The bud of the Night-Blooming Cereus flower only opens for one night, and withers into a flaccid droop by sunrise. My initial impulse with this artwork was to render this elusive flower, stunning and a bit intimidating, subject to the viewer's will. The movement of the viewer causes the flowers to open, then the bloom closes if there is no movement.
This piece allows me and others to directly experience a transgressive act of "playing god."
