A short demo of how I go about texturing characters for the Mac 'n' Cheese shorts!
I will usually start off by baking some of the Zbrush sculpting information to certain maps. I will blend the green channel of the normal map, the displacement and the ambient occlusion with the base color layer that I create in Mari.
Some dirt, noiseand painstroke textures will help break up the colors and will give me some extra information to later smear out with photoshops mixer brush tool. This is what eventually creates the painterly look.
I try to follow the flow of the surface with my brushstrokes.
I also have a testscenes open to see if the toon shader holds up.
It's all a bit fast, so I hope it's clear enough!
