In this piece I start by describing and remembering back to a time when swimming was a passion of mine that I loved and felt very happy doing it. This is depicted with childhood videos when swimming seemed like freedom for me, and is accompanied by audio recorded from when I was Student Athlete of the Year describing the success that came from this passion I had. The video then goes into a darker time, when I had decided to pursue swimming in college, in hopes of gaining more success. This dream of mine was however, not meant to be and this is illustrated through the use of my narrative, audio spoken by me, describing some of the feeling and emotion that I had while swimming in college. Finally, it comes to the point that I was broken completely and decide to quit swimming competitively and how I felt as though I found freedom once again, and was back to being happy, like when I was young. The message behind this piece is that not everything lasts forever, and some things that seem to be great in the beginning might turn out to not be what you once expected. However, that this experience is still a huge part of who you are as a person, and most importantly that you can overcome anything. I chose this topic because I thought that it would be nice to portray a message that had many different emotions tied into it, and because swimming is still a very important part of my life. This medium was fun to work with because I was able to experiment with underwater scenes, which were exciting to shoot.
