Hi, I'm Fred Green, the in-house multimedia producer for Kinetico, a manufacturer of water treatment equipment.
I wrote and produced this video with the intention of providing an entertaining way for people to quickly learn how Kinetico products work. It is posted on Kinetico's website and linked on YouTube, Facebook & Twitter.
The video was shot on a green-screen with a Canon 5D Mk2 in full HD. The animations were done with Lightwave 3D. The 3D character was also created and UV mapped in Lightwave, and I painted the textures in Photoshop.
The Live-to-3D camera matching was old-school. Using a tape measure, I manually recorded camera and light positions and also the camera and lens settings for each shot. In Lightwave I used the same values for the virtual camera and lights for the animation. Additionally, I used a light probe image, for IBL in the 3D scene.
The keying and compositing for most of the shots was done in Premiere Pro, using the Ultra Key filter. A couple of the shots with the live and 3D character was done in After Effects.
Audio was also mixed and posted right in Premiere Pro. The music tracks were licensed from Sounddogs.com.
