These Portuguese pop songs were transcribed for William Beckford in 1787, during his residence in Lisbon & Montserrate. They are the second oldest extant examples of this form. The voice parts are always in thirds accompanied by a single bass line. Maxwell Steer has arranged these songs for a typical combination of village musicians (here, Octavia Lamb flute, Sam Steer mandolin, Daniel Bovey guitar).
