When Tim Ward first came to the Care Partnership in Mesa, he saw an opportunity to make a difference. Ward began bringing in donated skateboards for the children there to play around with. After seeing the positive results, Ward continued to bring in boards and volunteer his time, leading to the creation of Skate After School, a small nonprofit organization that holds after-school programs for children at several different schools and locations around Phoenix.
Although Ward says he didn't initially intend for it to become a program, the reception from the kids and their communities has been positive. Ward and his other volunteers say they aren't looking to create a new generation of skateboarders, but to just have a positive influence on the kids and provide them with something fun to do after the school day is over.
Skateboards, parts and safety equipment can be donated to Skate After School at Cowtown Skateboards in Tempe.
