A Tale of Two Cellos
This is a short film which I produced and edited while working for my previous employer. It tells about Julian Lloyd Webber and his Chinese wife Jiaxin’s love concerto.
When I first met Julian, I was a trainee journalist. He kindly accepted my interview during the interval at High Bradfield Festival. Two years later, when I got to know he would release a new CD with his wife Jiaxin, a famous Chinese cellist, I was hoping to talk to them about their musical journey. They have been working together on the “West meets East Music Project. ”
During the whole project, I was moved by Julian’s serious attitude to details. He told us from which part of cello the sound was made and suggested the best position for our cameras. He was careful about sound quality and asked “could they keep playing the piece until they think they have really performed the music well”. Jiaxin is from Shanghai, China. She had the typical gentle character of southern Chinese girls. What tale are they trying to tell through their music? Well worth having a listening to their “Tale of Two Cellos”.
