Karla Mendez of Venezuela participated in Déja Blue IV, an international freediving competition hosted by Performance Freediving Int.,in Curaçao in October 2013. Karla set the new Venezuelan national record in Constant Weight No FIns (CNF). CNF is one of 6 disciplines of the competition, where the athlete swims to a predetermined depth, unassisted and without fins. The three ocean events are Free Immersion (the diver pulls themselves down a line to a declared depth using only their arms) and Constant Weight with or without fins, where the diver swims to a declared depth, using the line as a guide only. The competition also includes three pool disciplines, including Static Apnea (breath-hold for time) and Dynamic Apnea with and without fins, where the athlete swims for maximum distance under the water. Karla Mendez took home the Women's Gold Medal as overall winner of Déja Blue IV. Congratulations, Karla!
