The documentary follows the struggle for funding to renovate Derry's iconic Bogside Murals. The Bogside Artists have opted not to apply for finance as part of 2013 City of Culture festivities and have repeatedly been stonewalled by the local Council. The twelve world renowned murals, known as the People's Gallery, will slowly deteriorate due to lack of local government support while the city celebrates home grown culture all around town. The films shows how some local politicians are throwing money at other short term projects in the city as part of the City of Culture events but cannot fund iconic images that have symbolised Derry around the world for years. Some members of the local council development committee have argued that the artists are asking for too much and that their work may not be value for money, while others believe - given the tourist attraction and world famous status - that they are worth every penny.
The artists have been invited to cities around the world including Washington DC where they painted a Martin Luther King Jr mural. Most recently they painted a mural in Maribor, Slovenia which was unveiled by the Dhali Lama, to celebrate the cities status as European city of Culture. There is a terrible irony to this, countries round the world paying a great deal to have the three men visit and paint for them, but their home city won't finance the restoration of the work which made them and the city's culture famous.
