Education cutbacks are taking away creative outlets for youth in the Arts; Music, Performance, Visual Art and Creative Literary Arts. The Calgary community has many resources for supporting professional artists with various forms of Artist Run Centres, yet none specifically supporting youth Artists! Because youth 12-25 are in a crucial developmental period, they often face adversity of many forms. Marginalized youth in particular tend to feel alienated and can act out in risky behavior. Community+Arts+Knowledge ENGAGED or CAKE for short, aims to launch a Youth Artist Run Centre, a safe social space where young artists have support and fellowship. The skills they learn can be a platform for career development in the arts. At a subsidized rate and/or for free, they can access:
-Creative Tools -Drop-In Access -Learning Resources -Workshops -Mentorship Opportunities -Professional Guidance -Exhibitions -Performances -Screenings
Cake will recieve annual funding for operating, and programming but CAKE needs help to launch!!!
