The darkness, the fire, the question: what next?
This is a super 8 film shot during the very early moments of a winter morning in 2012 in St Leonards.
One take, one minute and a very uncertain future...
It was part of the 2012 edition of the straight 8 Film Festival and premiered at the ICA in London.
This is the 'negative' version which had a very special screening at the launch of The St Leonards International Film Festival (SLIFF) in July 2012, at the magnificent Durbar Hall in the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery. In this screening the original negative super 8 reel was projected with a live and improvised accompaniment by the maestro Darren Morris at the grand piano and Jason Williams on saxophone (see this original version on vimeo.com/78037530).
Darren composed the original soundtrack in one take too, 'in the dark', which meant an improvised response to a simplified oral description of the film. Genius!
The film was shot using Kodak Vision3 500T, using only the natural light of the fire and the moon.
