I used Picasa, the free photo manager from Google, to stitch together the handwritten pages into wmv files. You can see the leg of the tripod in those shots. I'd draw a letter, set the timer on the camera, push the button, put my hand near the letter I just drew and wait for the picture to take. Did that for each letter on each page. Picasa has a movie feature that lets you take a series of pictures and put them together in time lapse. The slowest lapse interval is 1/6 second, but I think it worked out ok.
For the falling leaves, I used the movie feature on the digital camera. That was just good luck to have the thing handy when the leaves were dropping like that.
I used Windows Movie Maker, the free thing that comes with Windows XP to put all the pieces together. The audio track is "The Planets, suite for orchestra & female chorus, Op. 32". I think that worked out pretty good, too. I didn't try to time any of the changes with the music. Just got lucky..
