I was born in Colombia in 1994 and moved to the US in 2001. This was my first time going back, as well as my family's, to visit family that we had not seen in nearly 12 years! It was a great experience and really showed me how different and how lucky I have it here in the US.
During our visit there was a nation wide protest going on and all the main roads were being blocked! We couldn't leave the city in which we landed in and couldn't go visit my grandmother for the first five days! It wasn't until the 6th day that the Colombian Army intervened and made the protesters clear the roads. My grandma and the rest of the family then came from their cities to Bogota, the city where we had been staying. We got to be with the whole family for the last two days of our stay, and it went by way too fast haha. It was good seeing my uncles and cousins who I had not seen since I was six. We all have changed, but we are still a family.
This has got to be the video that bring the most memories to me. It makes me reflect on my life here. It really is a different world over there, and although in the video everything seems happy, it always isn't. But like always, keep a positive mind, and look for the best in things. The best things over in Colombia for me, family.
