Usually sleepy kids riding the bus got a rude wake up about 7 Tuesday when bus 04-06, driven by Redena Murdock, was hit by a pickup driven by Tony Brewer that had swerved to miss Darlene Hill, who had stopped for the bus.
The truck skidded 321 feet before sliding into the bus, according to THP Bruce Prior. Hill did some quick thinking and moved her vehicle out of the way when she saw the truck coming.
Brewer stated he nearly came to a stop and barley hit the bus.
One student was transported to Stones River Hospital by Cannon County EMS and another was transported by private vehicle. Neither were injured but mostly shaken. Both were treated and released.
Brewer was charged with reckless driving and no insurance.
Bus driver Murdock put out safety triangles after the accident and the stop sign was still out on the bus. They reloaded the bus, not much worse for wear, since it had a ding where it was hit but a scrape on the other side where it appeared it may have hit the mailbox at the residence beside the road.
Barbara Parker stated, “Thanks to a very alert and quick responding bus driver, no one was seriously injured.”
The accident is still being investigated by THP. West Side Volunteer Fire Department, first responders, Cannon County EMS and the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a bus accident on Burt-Bergen Road.
Then this sign stated they were blasting Tuesday at the rock crusher just right outside of town, just in case you noticed a blast or two.
