The FOUND installation aims to examine filmmaking and design in a way that allows for creative dialogue regarding the process of making a film and ways in which it is consumed. By engaging a film that is in post-production, the filmmakers and design firm Mutual Influence hope to create an environment where the viewing experience goes beyond watching the moving images on a screen.
Found, a short film by Haimy Assefa and Antwan Rucker, tells the story of a young student of architecture, Jacoby, as he attempts to reconcile something that simultaneously is and is not. The directors, who also wrote the film, ventured to examine the sometimes seductive nature of our imagination. As most of the dialogue in the film is silent and internal to the main character, original and sampled sound design by DJ and producer 81Neutronz will attempt to serve as an addition layer of engagement for the viewer.
This installation re-configures the LaunchPAD exhibition gallery through a series of pinched sheets of paper that provide fragmented projection surfaces. These curved surfaces re-appropriate the idea of a curtain as a theatrical element of hide/reveal—generating (3) zones to view the film under (3) levels of intimacy.
The curtains work as intersections between prints and projections, while providing fragmented glimpses of activities in the background. Each moment of intersection occurs in pairs, superimposing real time with constructed media.
