Thanks for tuning into Staten Island This Week for the last week in October. This week we have some important updates for Staten Islanders, and we'll begin with a recent change that will affect the whole United States.
The IRS Delays Start to File Taxes Date:
It was recently announced that Americans will have to wait around two weeks longer to file their taxes for this year. Resulting from the government shutdown, the agency needs time to catch up. Watch to learn more.
A Lesser-Known Staten Island Landfill is Being Transformed Into a Park:
It is a well-known fact that the large landfill in Fresh Kills is being converted into a public park. However, few are aware that the Brookfield Avenue Landfill is being converted into a park as well, expected to be open to the public within five years.
The Staten Island Railway is Getting Re-Vamped:
The train stations at Nassau and Atlantic on Staten Island's East Shore Railway have fallen into disrepair. These two stations will soon be a thing of the past, and a brand new station at Arthur Kill Road will open in their place. This is especially good news if you're a south shore commuter.
Staten Island Saw Many More Residential Building Permits This Past Week:
A total of 21 residential permits were accepted for new construction in Staten Island, mostly in the Mid-Island neighborhood of Bulls Head. The Mid-Island section has seen a lot of permit acceptances lately, so be prepared to see some major changes taking place there. Watch to find out what kind of homes will be built, and all the neighborhoods they will be built in.
Upcoming Events for the Middle of November:
We have a handful of fun events for you to look into for the middle of November. You can choose from meeting a live arctic grey wolf, watching a musical version of "Tangled", or taking the kids to the Greenbelt for some fun nature-themed events.
