Aisling has a BA and a Master’s degree in Business Studies from UCD. For the past 12 years, she has been working with local communities, partnership organisations and NGOs in the development of sustainable livelihoods and the reduction of poverty.
She has extensive field work experience in Eastern & Southern African (Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda) on both long term and short term rural development programmes in the areas of business start-ups, SME development, project identification, vocational training, natural resource management, market analysis and rural/regional development.
Prior to joining Gorta, Aisling was the assistant programme manager on a €13m EU programme on sustainable rural development in the Wild Coast, South Africa.
In addition, she has a background in financial management, accounting and financial reporting, having started her career in international banking working for Chase Manhattan & Deutsche Bank. In Gorta she manages the country portfolios of Uganda, Kenya and India. Her technical expertise offers a key contribution particularly in the areas enterprise development, market analysis and livelihoods support.
