In 2007 I started archival research on the Arbeitsmigration (1955-1973), a controlled migration of workers (mainly) from South Europe and North Africa to the Federal Republic of Germany. The research was triggered by an archival photograph I found printed in a book. Finding little material about that migration of 14 million in the public archives of major German cities, I started collecting material myself in a door to door action through the city of Munich. The stills and found footage film BACKGROUNDS UP FRONT is the first work that came together through this research.
The research culminated in the site related, feature length audio-walk HISTORY REMIX that can be downloaded for free on: historyremix.de
(watch the language button on the top right of the main page! Click EN to download the walk in English language, or DE for a German version of the work)
