Vector Equilibria was originally projected onto a building at the University Science Center in Philadelphia. As part of Animated Architecture, curated by Sean Stoops, and with generous support from the Knight Foundation, the piece was unique in many ways. I collaborated with composer Gene Coleman on the subject of Buckminster Fuller and his idea of Spaceship Earth. Musicians who performed Gene's composition live at the event were Michael McDermott, Nick Millevoi, and Teddy Rankin-Parker with recording by Sam Cusumano of Data Garden. They also incorporated a recording of one of Gene's earlier works called 'Water of the Last Moment' by Gene with The Crossing (24 voice choir), Toshimaru Nakamura and Adam Vidiksis (electronics) and Ko Ishikawa (sho).
The animations were created using Grasshopper, Python, and After Effects. I scripted a class of agents to create the networked meshes and swarming mites and digital trees. Long live Spaceship Earth!
