By now, you’ve probably seen the viral video that chronicles the story of Davion Only, the orphaned boy who came before a church congregation and asked if anyone would be willing to adopt him. Why does this story stir us so much? Senior Pastor Jimmy Seibert continues the series on Romans this week with a message about the power of belonging.
Romans 8 says that there is now no condemnation for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. This isn’t because we’re perfect people who no longer struggle with sin. It’s because we’ve been welcomed into the family of God. We no longer have to live righteously in order to win God’s approval. Instead, we start from a place where approval has been given to us and that empowers us to live righteously. We still struggle and we still fall short. But the acceptance God gives us assures us that we can always get back up again.
