Performed at UCLA Royce Hall for Lotus Steps 2012: Songs of the Past
This dance is a contemporary piece based on a Zhuang legend, which tells of a tribe that had always wondered what the end of the sky looked like. One day, a young mother volunteers to leave the tribe and embarks on a journey to search for it. Years pass, however, and the mother grows old without having yet reached the limits of the sky. Too feeble to continue, she passes the dream on to her son, who continues her search.
Through the incorporation of contemporary movements and a traditional folk song, this dance celebrates the dreams and struggles that bind all generations of a nation together.
