A new report says the amount of greenhouse gases blamed for climate change has hit a new record.
According to the World Meteorological Organization, the accelerating trend in greenhouse gas emissions is making it harder to keep global warming within two degrees centigrade. That’s a target world countries agreed on at a Copenhagen summit in 2009. This, as the UN’s Environment Program says such emissions will be between 8 and 12 billion tons higher in 20-20 than the level needed to keep the global warming below that degree. Both organizations are warning that if the trend continues, it will also affect the water cycle, sea levels and cause extreme weather conditions.
