Inspired by Roland Barthes' The Lover's Discourse, this video explores a sort of phantom lover through a series of ritualistic acts of isolated preparations. The minute nuances of the character's life become her life more so than the expected, the anticipated, more so even than the dream, the fantasy. "...errantry does not align-it produces iridescence: what results is the nuance. Thus I move on, to the end of the tapestry, from one nuance to the next (the nuance is the last state of a color which can be named; the nuance is the Intractable.)" So she emerges somewhere else; still at a beginning, but much further away--further into her own nature, herself as nuance, herself as the lover this time. Beginnings may differ, lovers may change, but "…nuance is… Intractable," that is, it is the stubborn one, the one that waits for you.
