This project was done entirely in After Effects CS 3 (yes, I'm still using cs3, can't seem to update myself!) with some external plug-ins such as Optical flares and Trapcode Particular. I've also used basically one stock footage of smoke. The rest of the visual elements and designs were all done in After Effects from scratch - including the characters.
I was supposed to do this in 3D. Even had the main character ready, but due to some unfortunate circumstances I could not, so I stuck to what I knew best. Also, we only had a time frame of 3 months to deliver this so I stayed in my safe zone, thankfully managing to finish it on time. The story underwent a lot of changes. Initially, I had a longer story in mind where the boy confronts the father (the shadowy figure) at the end but I had to simplify the story, again, because of time restrictions and also because a lot of initial feedback proved that my original story might come off as misleading and confusing. Hopefully, the resolution in this final version is clear.
