Part One of a feature-length slideshow illustrating a fascinating, long-buried 1994 radio interview by David Mellor with Luciano Pavarotti, mainly about the tenors who inspired him. To name those who have a record played in this first part, these include: Beniamino Gigli, Enrico Caruso, Tito Schipa, Mario Lanza, Giuseppe Di Stefano and Mario Del Monaco. Along the way Pavarotti talks about his own development, and of course we get some unbelievable singing.
The project arose out of the digitization during 2013 of my old tape cassette collection. I thought the interview, so obscure as to be virtually ungooglable, too noteworthy to be lost to posterity. While cleaning it up with a view to making it publicly available I thought I might add some images by way of illustration. I believe this to be an eminently fair use (in the moral sense at least) of valuable material which would otherwise not see the light of day. No money will be made, though I hope to generate some traffic for my music site http://playlistasartform.com/
