This is a dog who is trained to detect early stage ovarian cancer. Her name is Schatzi, and she's a German Shepherd. This particular cancer detection dog is learning her "alert". Dina Zaphiris, the dog trainer, is teaching this cancer detection dog to "SIT" at the cancer sample. As you can see, Schatzi has no problem finding the sample, but now she needs to learn a proper alert. Schatzi was rescued from death row, and weeks later, InSitu Foundation was training her to detect early stage ovarian cancer. Her gracious owners, Leanne Wright and Jimmy Bassal were generous enough to send her to cancer detection dog training school at our foundation, where she made the final team and went on to detect ovarian cancer with extreme accuracy. We are awaiting the published results of the double blind study that she participated in.
