The Gooniyandi Rangers describe 'Smackdown: Event Horizon', held in 2013 at the Bayulu Sandbar on the mighty Fitzroy River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Searing heat and crocodiles couldn't contain the irresistible force of ranger groups from the Kimberley Land Council's Kimberley Ranger Program (KRP) competing in Smackdown, an event that celebrates the role of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) in the workplace.
Rangers competed over two days in events designed to challenge teamwork and problem solving, as well as practise LLN skills developed during the year. This video report was produced by the Gooniyandi Rangers as part of an event during the program. The rangers learnt the skills of reporting, photography and editing vision and sound using iPads in only a day and a half to produce this report. Look out for the mystery object which had to be included in each production!
Smackdown is the culmination of training delivered during 2013 by Kimberley Training Institute through the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) program.
