Have Been Expecting You is an interactive installation commissioned by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for the 10 Days - Social Innovation Festival, realized in collaboration with Hong Kong designer duo Yuen Yeung. The artists were asked to create a counter for the event, in order to count the number of people attending the festival.
Old furniture, second hand objects and mechanical devices are merged together to create this interactive installation that counts people coming in to attend the festival. The number of people ‘counted’ by the installation is updated and displayed in real time on the mechanical display embedded in the old suitcases. It is a collage of fragments, of histories and memories that adds to its concrete database all of the people it counts. It is a counter that is seen by the artists as a sum of lives trajectories, a container of passages and moments.
