THE OFFENDING NAME - ACTS 4-6
In the modern western world, Peter and John would have a case for discrimination invoking so-called hate crime laws. It all happened because they had the absolute audacity to HEAL A MAN who was lame in the Name of Jesus Christ. They were arrested by the religious elite and formally charged. An explanation was demanded from the Temple high priests. Peter then offered the explanation in full form. But this name he uses is so powerful that they are charged not to use it. Why is this name so offensive? Let us explore Acts 4.
ACTS 4:1-12 – THE OFFENDING NAME
1-THE NAME, JESUS CHRIST, is deeply offensive to humans and their religions because it is all-powerful (4:1-4).
2-THE NAME, JESUS CHRIST, is so powerful that 56 nations in the world have outlawed preaching about Him. They are all members of the United Nations (4:5-10).
3-THE NAME, JESUS CHRIST, is so powerful because no one accomplished the redemption of sin upon the cross except Him. He is exclusive (4:11-12).
