Photojournalist/Editor: Will Caldwell. Reporter: Marci Ruben. JERSEY CITY - A Brooklyn couple got more than a view of New York as they prepared to pass through the Holland Tunnel on Monday.
Their baby girl decided she just had to be born in New Jersey, and waited until the very last minute to do it. Ying Chen went into labor while visiting family in Philadelphia at 2 a.m., and she and her husband Kai Tang thought they could make it home to Brooklyn before she gave birth.
Tang says he felt his wife holding his hand tighter and tighter, thinking they couldn't make it to the hospital.
The baby, aptly named "Holly," was born in the couple's car at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.
"I only thought this happens on TV," says Chen.
The couple had pulled over at the toll booth plaza, where Tang began delivering the baby himself before Port Authority police arrived to help.
The new parents and their daughter were taken to New Jersey Medical Center where they are all recovering. The couple, who also has an 11-month-old son, is expected to head back home on Wednesday.
