You wouldn’t want to swim in it, nonetheless drink the water here. But that didn’t stop some people from eating fish they caught this weekend out of the East River.
The Brooklyn Fishing Derby culminated Sunday after three days and nights of aggressive angling. The event, sponsored by the Brooklyn Urban Anglers Association, brought together fishermen and women from all over who enjoy casting a line while looking out over the New York City skyline.
As for the grub, most people were OK taking a bite of a Striped Bass. That’s a migratory fish that passes through the area this time of year and -- in theory – has not spent too much time in the polluted waters of the East River.
