This is our initial review of Convergent Designs Odyssey 7Q OLED Monitor/Recorder. Here we give you all a look at the user interface of the device and how it will work with the Sony FS700 add-on option. Chicago DP extraordinaire Mike Bove joins me and offers his professional opinion on all the features from a DP/AC perspective.
We have already received a bunch of great feedback from Convergent Design on some of our more 'sketchy' parts of the video. Expand out the description here answer to all the questions we brought up. This should clear things up for everyone!
Power Connector - vimeo.com/79207920#t=1m51s
The 3-pin connector here is not lemo it is a Neutrik
Power Options - vimeo.com/79207920#t=1m55s
Power – you discussed what options there are (IE with a Fischer end for ALEXA). Visit here for part numbers/list/links to current options: convergent-design.com/Products/Odyssey7Q.aspx#Power-Battery-43
SDIA I/O ports - vimeo.com/79207920#t=2m22s
SDIA I/O and SDIB I/O – These are bidirectional SDI's, so you can use them as inputs OR outputs. If you put in four signals, you can quad-monitor all of them! With the Multi-Stream HD Option purchased, you can RECORD all four streams! If you were recording a 4K input, you could use them for four outputs to a 4K monitor.
RMT Port - vimeo.com/79207920#t=3m07s
This is our custom Remote port (will be available for purchase soon)
OLED Color Gamut - vimeo.com/79207920#t=5m08s
DCI is a wider color gamut for cinema shooting
Guides - vimeo.com/79207920#t=5m55s
We are adding 1.85 & 2.39, but we can whatever users want! Send us some requests and we'll add; it's trivial!
We are also looking into multiple guides at once, and trying to implement that too.
LUT - vimeo.com/79207920#t=6m28s
Standard is REC709; User Programmable's coming
Screen 'Blinking' - vimeo.com/79207920#t=8m34s
This is just the way the screen is reseting itself!
Option Purchasing - vimeo.com/79207920#t=13m20s
This will be going online soon (shopping cart). When it does you will not need call, just hop online anytime from anywhere to purchase and retrieve your activation code!
Option Rentals - vimeo.com/79207920#t=13m56s
One rental day is 24 consecutive hours. So once you choose to activate a credit (a day), it will count down 24 hours before expiring. You put the activation code in your unit, but you choose when and how many 'credits' you want to activate when you're ready.
Project FrameRate - vimeo.com/79207920#t=18m00s
This is the playback rate. If you chose 60p from your 23.98 footage, it would give you fast motion on playback!
SDI Signal Lose - vimeo.com/79207920#t=27m19s
We are currently work on how the recorder handles this situation, even thou this should not be a standard practice, we can obviously see how users may encounter this when shooting. We hope to have a update to this with our next firmware update which is should be coming in in the next couple weeks.
Legalized - vimeo.com/79207920#t=20m34s
This is a broadcast standard; it forces the output to 'legalize' it for broadcast monitoring
Clip Delete - vimeo.com/79207920#t=22m25s
There is a reason for not having it; largely due to the fact it limits our SSD performance (i.e., you could delete it, but you wouldn't get that space back on your SSD until it's formatted per usual). Sorry! :(
Pause in Playback Mode - vimeo.com/79207920#t=23m46s
This is coming in firmware that supports 'Scrubbing'…the progress bar you can scroll for forward/rewind, and will include Pause!
RAID High Speed - vimeo.com/79207920#t=30m15s
All the even frames are recorded to SSD1 and all odd frames are recorded to SSD2.
