Only 1% of children who start Kindergarten in Zambia will finish 12th grade. And of that 1% only 20% of those students are girls. In Zambia over 30% of girls between 15-19 years old have been pregnant or have already had one child and 42% of Zambian women are married before age 18. These alarming statistics result in girls not being able to finish high school, let alone go on to college.
Lifesong is working to help reverse these statistics by improving the living conditions of our high school and jr. high school students. Zambia's Student Life Homes will be a safe environment away from the village that will provide student with housing, meals, electricity, spiritual mentorship and life skills.
Elizabeth is one of the girls that will be among the first to benefit if we raise enough money to build the first two homes, one for girls and one for boys. Elizabeth currently lives with her grandparents, younger sister and her great-grandmother.
Your gift to Lifesong Zambia's Student Life Homes will help give her a better opportunity to go to high school and graduate. And now all gifts given to the Student Life Homes Project will be matched up to $200,000.
