The world’s largest orange diamond has been sold for 35-point-5 million dollars in Switzerland, setting a world record price per carat for any colored diamond sold at an auction. This deep orange gemstone was found in South Africa and weighs 14-point-82 carats, meaning that it went for an eye-popping 2-point-4 million dollars per carat. It beat the previous record for the Vivid Pink Diamond sold in Hong Kong in 2009. Pure orange diamonds, also known as "fire diamonds", are extremely uncommon and few have been auctioned, with the largest not more than six carats. International head of Christie’s jewelry department, Francois Curiel believes the orange diamond’s record price puts it ‘among the greatest pinks and blues---which are traditionally the most appreciated colored diamonds.
