Hazel Malapit, A4NH Gender Research Project Coordinator, discusses research results on women’s empowerment and nutrition in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Ghana and describes how taking into account contextual differences in gender roles leads to a better understanding of research results. She specifically discusses the Women’s Empowerment Agriculture Index—or WEAI—a tool for analyzing nutritional outcomes across a variety of contexts, jointly developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).
