Now that 2013 is almost over, I'm beginning to realize what a pivotal year 2012 was. It started with my last few months of law school classes, and by leap day I was jumping off on a new adventure. I spent the spring in Costa Rica, soaking in as much scenery and community I could manage. The summer brought another once-in-a-lifetime adventure: the Bar Exam. By fall I was back on the road, this time traveling all over the United States. Before year's end, I'd made it back to Costa Rica twice more, and thrown in Panama and Nicaragua for good measure.

While 2013 beheld far less wandering, my voyage is not over. This year has been about focusing and clarifying the purpose behind my exploration, the reason I feel compelled to keep moving, keep working, keep learning. What it comes down to is the desire to finish what I've started, and to do whatever I can to make an important idea become reality.

With 2014 right around the corner, I'm ready to bring this ride full circle and head back to Costa Rica to continue exploring the challenges faced by local residents of coastal Talamanca. With the help of local folks and filmmakers, we will begin the process of documenting the area's history through a community storytelling project. We're hoping to encourage a dialogue about the local impact of international conservation mechanisms, and provide a platform for the community's voice and experience to be heard.

This video is a compilation of shots taken in transit over the course of 2012, set to Beirut's beautiful rendition of O Leãozinho. If you'd like to help this voyage continue, learn more at our website and consider donating to the indiegogo campaign.

The Rich Coast Project:

O Leãozinho

I really want to see you, little lion
walking under the sun
I really like you little lion
it makes me sad, little lion
for my lonely heart
it's enough to have found you on my way
young leon, ray of the morning
captivating my look like a magnet
my heart is sun, father of all colour
when it briighten your skin
I like to see you on the sun, little lion
to see you getting into the sea
your skin, your light, your mane
I like to stay on the sun, little lion
to make wet my mane
to be next to you, and come in
O Leãozinho

Gosto muito de te ver leãozinho
Caminhando sob o sol
Gosto muito de você leãozinho
Pára de se entristecer leãozinho
O meu coração tão só
Basta eu encontrar você no caminho
Um filhote de leão, raio da manhã
Arrastando o meu olhar como um ímã
O meu coração é o sol, pai de toda cor
Quando ele lhe doura a pele ao léu
Gosto de te ver ao sol leãozinho
De ter ver entrar no mar
Tua pele, tua luz, tua juba
Gosto de ficar ao sol leãozinho
De molhar minha juba
De estar perto de você e entrar numa
