Please keep an eye out for small hedgehogs. Here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue seeing many come in now with four admitted today alone and this the last one to be admitted so far today at only 190grams. Previous days have seen multiple litters including a litter of five siblings admitted all around 200grams, around a 1/3 of the minimum weight they need to survive winter.
This little juvenile at 190grams is freezing cold and near death.
If you do see one secure it in a high sided cardboard box with something to snuggle under such as an old towel. Put the box somewhere dark, quiet and warm (not hot). Phone your nearest rescue straight away.
If you do find and help rescue a small hedgehog, keep an eye out on subsequent nights as there will probably be more from the same litter struggling to survive in the area. Let your neighbors know and get them on the lookout.
