Actor, violinist, singer, scuba diver and construction handyman wizard, Ian McCamy grew up in New York City where he studied at the LaGuardia School of Arts and The City College of New York. He left the States in 1991 to study Philosophy in Germany where he began performing at the Kunsthaus Tacheles Theater in East Berlin. A year later while on a trip to Paris he joined an Irish band and remained in France to perform and play Irish music. Consequently, after raising two children, restoring a medieval house, making wine and learning Old-Time fiddling with Robert Crumb in the Cévennes mountains, he now lives in Paris where he has trained with Damien Acoca, Ilia Volok, Géraldine Ros, Lydie Callier, Marie Giraud and Monique De Saint Ghislain.
He appears as Henry Koster in the TV series MISSIONS by Julien Lecombe; with Clotilde Hesmé in DIANE À LES ÉPAULES by Fabien Gorgeart, in Edouard Deluc’s GAUGIN starring Vincent Cassel and in MARVIN by Anne Fontaine with Isabelle Huppert. Ian has worked under the direction of Olivier Dahan, Arnaud Desplechin, Olivier Assayas, Agnieszka Holland and Frédéric Auburtin.
Off-screen he performs traditional Celtic and Old-Time Americana music inspired from his Scots-Irish and Tennessee Mountain roots, playing the fiddle, the guitar and singing countless songs about death, misery and love lost.
