Granite rocks of the Deccan Plateau are amongst the oldest in the world and date 2,500 million years back. onion peel weathering (or spheroidal weathering/ rounding the stones) resulted in beautiful and bizarre rock formations. These are home to rich endemic biodiversity. The growth oriented unsustainable developmental activities are eating up these rocks and life they contain. Society to Save Rocks is doing excellent work to save these rocks. But it is simply not enough, lot more needs to be done. Awareness can help protect the rocks.
