Jesus is going to talk about the prayers that rescue the heart. Prayer isn’t complicated and Jesus is going to share two parables about prayer this morning. The first parable will emphasize the persistent prayer. A prayer that will rescue the heart is a prayer that we don’t give up on. Often we have no human help in our need, no earthly way we can be delivered, and in those moments we throw up a prayer and if we don’t get an immediate answer, we conclude it just didn’t work. Jesus is going to show that we have the wrong idea. Then He’s going to talk about the penitent prayer: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Finally He’ll talk about the childlike prayer. Jesus isn’t saying childish people get to heaven, but that you must reflect the character of children: who are innocent, trusting, dependent and expecting. It’s those attitudes that children have naturally and instinctively that we need to have to enter God’s Kingdom. Children realize they are dependent.
