The Tierra Bomba Bottle Project /Colores De Colombia :
Standing alone in, just 10 minutes by boat from Colombia’s hottest touristic destination, world class conventions and summits stands Tierrabomba. People of Tierrabomba are descendents of slaves that claimed the island as home. The island has beautiful beaches and great ocean life around it, making it a place with great potential for touristic activities and attractions. Even though the island has great potential, the lack of waste logistics, clean water, monetary sources, opportunties and quality education, leaves dreams of improvement of a quality life in a distant reality.
The ocean that separates the island from Cartagena seems wider when it comes to social and economic assistance. Tierra Bomba has critical health issues created by the lack of clean water, septic tanks, no waste management and poor medical assistance. “Tierrabomberos” (people of Tierrabomba) have two main occupations; they are either fisherman or work in tourism. Both occupations are affected by either climate change or seasons, making earning a living a grueling everyday struggle. Tierrabomba’s culture is proud, while its heritage is fading away; kids want to learn how to drive a boat or to fish and girls want to learn how to massage or make hairdressing beads, these are the only options they seem to have in a future, leaving no space for education, advancement or other cultural expressions.
The Tierra Bomba people are in need of your support collectively in effort to be the first of twelve sustainable eco community centers in South & Central American countries of need. These community centers will be built from old plastic bottles & recycled waste materials, while being transformed into works of art curated by Zakee Kuduro and local child artists. The Tierra Bomba Bottle Center will be housed with computers, books, clean water & community waste solutions, while aiding as an added art & culture reinforcement to community preservation.
Our added goals include reaching at-risk youth in Colombia through a variety of programs aimed to serve the whole person & family. These include education, health, technology, job training, and cultural development. In 2014, Twelve Bit Media plans to build facilities to address the needs of these communities.
