The Shelby County Health Department working with the University of Memphis and Middle Tennessee State is in the process of studying air toxics in Shelby County. The study is called REACT – Reducing exposure to airborne chemical toxics.
The REACT study will identify possible areas of high concentrations and major contributors of air toxic pollutants in Shelby County. In addition, the results of the study will be used to compare health risks from exposure to air toxics across Shelby County. Lastly, the study is designed to provide scientific data to EPA for a better understanding of air toxics in a local community and future control air toxics emissions.
