This piece is a motion study of a creature Aaron Sims will be featuring in his upcoming film, Tethered Islands. I clearly took this piece past a 'motion study,' what with all the attention to set and camera and all, but the 'story' we were trying to tell necessitated doing so.
I was provided the model and textures for this creature by Ceco Georgiev, a very talented artist who works with us at ASC from abroad. I applied a quick rig to him, animated him, shaded, lit, rendered, and comped him. I used ZBrush and Photoshop to create additional maps for him and Photoshop to modify and repurpose the provided maps to shade him properly. I used Vray for rendering and After Effects to composite him. The eyes were done from scratch. I, also, was responsible for the entirety of the set and props, as minimal as they are. In all, this was a fun project and the fruits are, humbly, pretty cool.
All of these motion studies could use some sound design I'll admit, but until I can find someone to do it for me we'll have to enjoy them in silence. But, do enjoy!
