WID’s Frontier Fellows program taps into student creativity and selects UW–Madison undergraduate students to join the Institute’s intellectual community. Fellows work collaboratively on novel research, education or outreach projects.

Alexandra Cohn, 2013 fellow and undergraduate philosophy major, explains how being in the WID community exposed her to new ideas and possibilities outside of the classroom. As a part of the Biobulb group, Cohn worked with fellows Michael Zaiken and AnaElise Beckman to create a microbe-driven light bulb. The project landed the students in Popular Science magazine's #CrowdGrant contest.
