The answer to a declining church isn't to have a "poor me" attitude. That's what the majority of the exiles in captivity did when 6 centuries before Jesus the superpower of Babylon invaded Judah and Jerusalem and carried them off to Iraq. They wrote songs like "by the rivers of Babylon, how we wept when we remembered Zion." Too many Christians today have adopted that mentality or only talk about the good old days. Some even have a "Star Trek" theology – beam us up Scotty. They only see hope in being taken out of this world and so batten down the hatches until that happens. What do we do when the circumstances around us are challenging, the spiritual temperature is low and the church seems to be no longer influential in the nation's life? We get back to God's Word and promises!
